Make a character. Pick a race, pick a class, and read over the Setting. This game is fantasy based, and loosely resembles the real life Renaissance Era.
Play happens on our forum (see 'Join Us Live' below) and in our chat room. If you are new to this style role play, we suggest watching others play in chat or reading over the forum to get a feel for it. Its a mix of acting, and writing. You play out the character you made in the world of Varlonan. How do they react to people they meet? What are their goals in life? Are they looking for love, or perhaps the thrill of battle?
We will have Quests on occasion, which are events that our staff do that brings together the players into one scenario and allowing them to adventure or figure their way out of a situation together. This is a perfect opportunity for other players to get to know you and your character. Quests are the best social situation because everyone HAS to work together to achieve the Quest's objective. Don't worry if you make an enemy or two among other characters either... this simply adds to the fun of the game. What fun is it if EVERYONE is your friend and there is never any in character conflict or drama?
Getting Started
Tell a story and build your character through activities to become strong and influential in the world of Varlonan. Status, Battles, Adventure and more await your character creation. Make friends with similar joys for writing and collaberate on creative storylines.
You can choose to simply write your heart out, and stay mostly freeform. Or you can build up your character sheet to get better and stronger, showing off to everyone else the areas your character excels.

Character Sheets
When you register, you will get a character sheet. This is the place where you can see all your character's stats, information and items. The sheet can look a little intimidating for those not used to them, but all it takes is a little time for you to get used to them. If you mess something up, we can fix it or change it for you, so you don't have to worry about doing something wrong.
Description - This is the spot that describes your character's appearance, history, personality and family. The appearance should match the guidelines and requirements of the race you picked. We're lenient if you are a little off, so again, don't stress!
Stats - This is the 'structured' part of our game and what intimidates people the most. With a little practice, you'll be a pro in no time and not have to keep checking references or cheat sheets to know what something is or how it works.
VIG = Vigor (Your character's physical strength.)
AGL = Agility (Your character's speed, balance and flexibility.)
APT = Aptitude (Your character's ability to learn, and how intelligent they are.)
INF = Influence (How much your character can influence others or manipulate magic.)
STM = Stamina (How much your character can endure, and stay healthy.)
LP = Life Points (This determines how much damage your character can take before dying.)
MP = Magic Points (This is how much magic your character can cast before getting exhausted.)
The above stats are used for situations you'll encounter in quests or battles. Melee (close combat) damage for example is determined by a character's Vigor, unarmed damage and how much they can block. You can learn more about these individually on the combat page.
Skills - Your character will have a variety of skills from their Race and Class. Usually, your character will have a bonus or negative to their rolls (such as +3 for dodge rolls) or have a percentage on the skill. If its a percentage, you need to roll below the percentage you have unlocked. You raise your percentage higher to have an easier time getting a successful roll, using your SP (Skill Points) or CP (Class Points.) These skills are mostly used in Quests, but sometimes also in duels. As you level, you'll get more points to make your character stronger in their skills. SP is also used to increase your Stats, learn a new language, gain Poison Resistence and more.
Achievements - This is something you can do just for fun, and to earn yourself some extra points. AP (Achievement Points) will be earned as you earn achievements. These AP points will act as either SP or CP... whichever you prefer! So it makes your character stronger, and gives you something extra to do on the side with your character.
Status & Titles - Depending on what your character owns, or does will increase their 'Status' in the game. For every 15 Status you gain, you will earn the ability to have a Title. Titles will give you a perk (such as +1 to a Stat) as well as be something you can claim in game (such as Royalty status) to help define your character even more. You'll gain Status for things like getting married, having kids, defeating people in battle, owning rare or expensive items, owning property and more.
Destiny - A one-time roll that will reward some players a unique perk, though it is hard to get.
Jobs - A freeform style in character career that will award people gold each week if they play out the job and roll according to the CP they've invested in that job. The more CP, the more gold earned.
Disabilities - Some characters might acquire a disability in battle when a limb is cut off, or some players may choose to give their character a disability. If a character has disabilities, they will gain a benefit in something of the opposite manner. If blind, they may have increased 'Touch' that lets them "see" in place of their sight for example.
Items, Weapons, Armor - In general storyline play, we are lax on the fact you can claim whatever you like for your character. However, when it comes down to official events such as battles or quests or other staff run things... you can only use and claim what you have on your sheet.
